Middle School

Middle School Snapshot
High school can be a very daunting place for Year 7 students. The movement from room to room around the school, the different teachers and subjects that they have, the use of lockers and managing combination padlocks. The processes and procedures are very different to what they were accustomed to in primary school. Each one of them has made a fantastic start to the new school year and settled into the routine of high school life extremely well. Coming from numerous primary schools, the camp was a great way to meet fellow students and to make new friends. Each Year 7 was also introduced to a Year 12 student as a face that they can recognise and approach for assistance as they make their way around the school. One common theme that came out of the meeting of senior and junior students is to get involved in the school and to take every opportunity that is presented to them. Six years may sound like a long time but as many seniors have found out, it goes by very quickly. The first of these opportunities comes with the House swimming sports which take place next Wednesday 28 February.
The Year 8s and 9s have also settled in well and are making good progress towards their first assessment tasks. The Year 8s are enjoying new subjects like Wood, Visual Communication and Project Based Learning, while the Year 9s are having their first tastes of elective subjects and the Live Life program. Congratulations to the 2018 Live Life leaders who have been elected by their peers: Tara Blair, Tahlia Hook, Courtney Blythe and Quentin McLean.
Also, a big congratulations to Samuel Smillie (Year 9) who has been announced as one of the Eric Perkins Scholarship winners. The scholarship is awarded by the Box Hill Lions Club and to selected year 9 students who demonstrates outstanding commitment to both their studies and extracurricular activities. Samuel will receive a sum of money put toward his studies each year until year 12. Well done, Samuel.
