From the Principal's Desk

Welcome back to all students, staff and families! I trust that everyone had a relaxing break, ready and rejuvenated to return for the final term of 2020.

The school will continue to follow the health advice of the day when planning events this term and communicate to you about changes. In summary:

  • At this stage we will continue with our procedures for drop off and pick up.
  • Meetings with parents cannot occur, unless absolutely necessary. If they do occur, it is in alignment with COVID safe guidelines.
  • Mass gatherings of adults still cannot happen onsite, so assemblies will just be with students and broadcasted via Seesaw.
  • Our Kindergarten orientation will remain on hold for now, and we have put procedures in place, so that we can still conduct many elements of this program online.
  • Incursions and excursions can occur, if students stay with their Stage / class groups and there a links to the curriculum. Providers must have a COVID-19 safety plan in place.

One positive for our Year 6 students is that the Catholic Club are able to accommodate and provide a COVID safe farewell. After what has been a trying year, this is great news for our senior students.

Additional School Development Days in Term 1, 2021

The department informed Principals this week, that as of 2021, there will be changes to the structure of School Development Days (SDD). These are the days when staff are onsite, completing professional learning and organisation, but students are not at school. In 2021, there will be two School Development Days at the beginning of Term 1. Staff will return on January 27 and 28, and students will return on 29 January.

Schools will now only have one SDD at the end of the year, rather than the usual two. This means that there will still only be five SDDs per year. SDDs will occur at the beginning of Terms 2 and 3, as per usual.

Numbers for 2021

This time of year is when we start to think about planning for 2021. To help us with planning for classes and numbers, we request that families let us know if they are leaving the school, for example, moving and enrolling in a new school or going away over the summer period and returning to school late.

If you have planned a trip and you will be returning after January 29, 2021 or your child will not return to LPS in 2021, please complete the form at the link below:

Book Character Parade and Book Week

Thank you to the organisation of Mrs Stephens and Miss Everingham and help from Miss Sarah, Mrs Dutton and Mr Mitchell, we celebrated book week with a Stage parade, book fair and in class activities. Students were excited in their costumes on Tuesday and Thursday and looked fantastic. Keep an eye on Seesaw and Facebook to see the photos of the events.

Pre-service Teachers

We welcome three pre-service teachers from Western Sydney University to LPS for the next six weeks. The pre-service teachers are with 5/6T, 5/6B and 2/3P. We wish them the best for their time at LPS.

Staffing Change

Ms Turrin is on LSL for the next 10 days. She has been covered by Miss Kaitlyn Pakowski. Miss Pakowski is looking forward to continuing Ms Turrin’s class program and working with the Stage 3 team. Mr Kirkpatrick will relieve as the Stage 3 Assistant Principal during Ms Turrin’s absence.

Kindergarten Area

Luke from TEKN Projects has finished the mural in the Kindergarten area and it looks fantastic. Thank you, Luke for your wonderful talents and contributing to rejuvenate our school.

#proudprincipal

This fortnight’s first #proudprincipal moment is for 5/6C, as a whole class. 5/6C used their learning about chance and probability to create their own board and card games. I look forward to seeing these games mass marketed and the next big thing in entertainment. Congratulations 5/6K and great job Mr Kirkpatrick! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The next #proudprincipal is 5/6T. Students in 5/6T were trying to help Ms Turrin out by trying to persuade me to provide her with additional two weeks of leave. Nice try 5/6T and Ms Turrin! But Ms Turrin can take her long service leave and then return! I am sure 5/6T will miss her when she is away. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Next is Matilda and Mia from 5/6K. These two have worked collaboratively during Information Processing Skills RFF to come up with so original solutions to problems around our school. I love their ideas and I think they should start creating and prototyping some of their solutions. Well done girls and great work Ms Paget and Mrs Matthews. #proudprincipal 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Our final #proudprincipal moment this fortnight is Nabeela, Marnelia and Meladee from 5/6H. These girls have been working so hard with Miss Hall to convert fractions with denominators of 10 or 100 into decimals. I am so proud of the fact that their hard work has paid off and they are able to do it now. Congratulations girls and fantastic work to Miss Hall! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
