Performing Arts News

What a whirlwind few weeks it has been in Performing Arts! All of the students have been consolidating the musical skills they have learnt throughout the year and applying them to some very special portfolio tasks that will be sent home at the end of term. I have been so impressed by just how much knowledge the students have retained given we have had such a disrupted year at school.

Christmas Carols

Over the past few weeks, all students have been learning a Christmas Carol routine for our virtual Carols Concert. In addition to learning the lyrics for their assigned song, each class has had the opportunity to contribute ideas for choreography and staging. This has resulted in routines that are truly a representation of collaborative and creative learning.

As for many other events this year, our Christmas concert will look a little different in 2020. Due to the current department guidelines, we are unable to have our extended community come along to view our concert live. In order to keep tradition alive and spread some Christmas cheer, we will be filming our Carols concert on Tuesday 1st December at school and putting together an I-movie for our school community to enjoy at home. Mrs. Granger and I have been working very hard behind the scenes to co-ordinate rehearsals, filming schedules and sets in order to put together a wonderful montage of the students' performances for you to view with your families. If you do not wish for your child to be filmed performing with their class, please let myself, Mrs. Granger and your teacher know by Monday 30th November.

To give you a little taste of what to expect from our virtual concert, here is the set list that we will be filming on the 1st of December:

Prep: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

1HM: Aussie Jingle Bells

1AC: Here Comes Santa Claus

1/2T: Santa Claus Is Coming

2CC: Santa Wear Your Shorts

2TW: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

3/4M: Frosty the Snowman

3/4A: It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

3/4S: Aussie Aussie Christmas

3/4P: Rocking Around the Christmas Tree

5/6H & 5/6S: Jingle Bell Rock

5/6L & 5/6V: Holly Jolly Christmas

We cannot wait to share the magic of Christmas with you all once the filming and editing is complete. In the meantime, play those carols loudly in your homes and cars and soak up this wonderful time of year.

Keep singing,

Mrs. Harrison
