STUDENT PROJECTS

VCAL PROJECTS

In response to the restrictions placed on us in 2020, VCAL students have focussed their energy on the classroom and school environment rather than the wider community. Some of their projects have included building and installing a new classroom kitchen. Painting a mural on the classroom wall to brighten the space and designing and installing a vertical garden using old pallets. They have also been working outside weeding and maintaining the school gardens and using twigs to design and make Christmas decorations.

VCAL students have led these projects with independence and enthusiasm.

VICTORIAN JUNIOR LANDCARE GRANT

Mount Eliza Secondary College is one of 113 schools and youth organisations to receive a 2020 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant, supported by the Victorian Government’s Victorian Landcare Program.

Funded by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, these grants are run by Landcare Australia, as part of its Junior Landcare program.

The grant of $5000 will be used for regeneration of the garden beds around the College with the aim of drastically increasing the school’s biodiversity by planting a range of native plant species which will in turn provide food species and habitat for our native insects and birds.

We are delighted to receive a Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant and are eager to start our project. Our students will learn about improving our soil, increase biodiversity through native planting and apply land care principles to promote ongoing support for native wildlife.

The Victorian Government is funding these grants to provide Victorian schools, kindergartens and community youth groups and organisations an opportunity to participate in on-ground projects and activities that provide both environmental and educational outcomes, as well as health and social benefits.

This is a College community project and we invite anyone from our community who is interested in being a part of this project to contact Mrs Claringbold at the College for further details.
