Focus on Learning
Stage 2 Mrs Wilson
I have been really impressed with the way my class has returned from the school holidays. They are all fresh and motivated for a new term. We have had a big first week with getting back into our daily routine, everyone is focused and ethusiastic so I feel confident that we are going to have some great learning happening.
As a school we have been focusing on how we deliver our Mathematics lessons and the Stage 2 classroom has really embraced this new structure.
Week 1 we were looking at counting money, giving change, adding and subtracting and rounding money to the nearest 5c. The children really enjoyed using the toy money to help them with their activities. One valuable lesson for the children was giving and checking change, a lifelong tool that they will use everyday.
In English we are learning the importance of public speaking. The students are practising how to write and present a speech. They will be learning to: introduce themselves and someone else, speak about an issue they are passionate about and lots of small engaging speeches so that they become confident speaking in front of others. We all know this can be very intimidating, so we are doing lots of practice to make sure that the students feel less scared. Below the students were researching some famous quotes and they gave a group speech about their famous speaker.
