A note from Mr Jackson

Rosanna Remembers

Students stopped and reflected at 11:00am on 11 November to mark Remembrance Day. A special thanks to our student leaders who led this moment of reflection for the whole school. Our Rosanna Primary wreath was laid at the cenotaph in Watsonia to mark this time when we recall the great tragedy of war and give thanks to all who live, learn and work for a more peaceful world.

Shade Sail Announcement

Late last week we received confirmation that we were successful with a SunSmart grant that will enable us to install shade sails in the STEM Garden. This will enable this significant learning space to be utilised throughout the year. We hope to see them spring up early next year.

Sustainability Garden Refreshed

A big delivery of soil saw our students dirty their hands and refresh the veggie garden. During the week we received a special Bunnings gardening donation of equipment. Students worked diligently to plant a mature crop that we hope will bear fruit at the end of the year. Fingers crossed, we might even be able to offer a special Xmas offer for those who need a little more greenery in their diet.

Welcome to our Student Teachers

Student teachers from RMIT, Deakin and LaTrobe are with us at the moment to complete their required teaching placements. While their time with us will be brief, it has been a significant opportunity for them to see our school in action, support teaching staff, and calloborate with students

2021 Prep Orientation

We have been thrilled to welcome our 2021 Prep cohort onsite this week. With the easing of restrictions they have visited the school in small groups. While our new Rosanna’ites read and responded to some great books, parents discussed the ins and outs of life in our community! Teachers reported that it was great to have this small group time with our future students to get to know them! A special thanks to the Prep team and admin staff who quickly arranged this visit as soon as restrictions were eased.

Our next gathering will be the virtual Information night is planned for Wednesday 18 November at 7:30pm. Information on virtual meeting details for our future Prep families will be available shortly.

Whole School Transition

On Monday, students will begin to lift their heads and begin to consider life in their 2021 grade level. Students will move and meet with their grade peers to gain a taste of what life might look like next year and learning area. Some discussions and activities around how things might change will allow students to prepare.   This supportive transition program aims to support students in what might otherwise be a time of nervousness.

NAIDOC Week Assembly

All are invited to share in our school assembly at 2:40pm on Friday. We’ll be celebrating our ‘Students of the Week’ as well as learn a little of what our 4/5/6 area have been up to this week. We’re very excited to mark this significant week with a visit from one of our neighbours who will play the didgeridoo for us. It will complete an important week that reminds us of the great richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
