Middle Learning Community Classroom Library

Our students have immediate access to many books to read within their homerooms. Reading is a powerful tool that supports students in building curiosity and develop their knowledge of the world. In the Middle Community, our students have been reading and enjoying stories each and every day!

Students have begun developing their independent reading routines and enjoying books that interest them.

Take home reading

The Middle Learning Community has set up our 'Take-home Reading Program'.

Students will come home with either a login code for 'Decodables Online' or a levelled book, suitable to their reading ability. It is an expectation that students spend up to 20-30 minutes reading, a minimum of 5 nights a week, to improve their literacy skills and exercise their brains!

These are the steps of our 'Take Home Reading' routine.

Honey for your Seahorse

Social and Emotional Learning empowers individuals to develop confidence, empathy and the skills to establish meaningful relationships with others in their community.

Through the text' Honey For Your Seahorse', students have been exploring parts of the brain and the natural chemicals involved in the development of emotions. This text has supported deep conversations about dealing with strong emotions. The learning has assisted students in developing self-awareness of how emotions and situations impact their well-being and of others.

Student Voice

Let us introduce you to Queen Bee, Beyonce, Bee-slay and George!

In line with our text ‘Honey for your Seahorse’, we have been focusing on, ‘Honey’. 'Honey" is the common phrase used in our Middle Community, specifically when creating positive emotions. If students have been spreading honey throughout our school and or community, they are acknowledged and rewarded with our classroom bees. This student is then known as the 'Beekeeper'.

Gratitude

Gratitude helps our students to reflect on positive experiences and emotions. It is essential for promoting a positive growth mindset, and improving self-esteem and student well-being. Each week, our students have been exploring the things that have brought them JOY and reflecting on the positive parts of their day and lives.
