Warm Welcome

Welcome to our first Plenty River College Newsletter for 2023. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our students, their parents/carers and family members.

The college will be publishing a newsletter monthly to give the community a snapshot into what the students and staff have been doing both here onsite and out in the community.

Students have commenced the school year on a very positive note.

They have settled into their classes; they are busy developing good work habits and community connections as they work towards meeting the requirements of their selected course. Friendships are being established and it’s wonderful to see the friendly faces of all our students as they walk through the door each day.

Meet the Staff

Principal

My name is Veronica Kioria, the inaugural Principal of Plenty River College. I started the journey to registering PRC 3 years ago while working as a Principal/CEO at Diamond Valley Learning Centre (DVLC). Once the College was registered in 2022, I, together with 4 other DVLC staff members moved over to the College.

My involvement in teaching and learning began in Kenya, thus allowing me to fully embrace the opportunities for professional development that have been on offer since migrating to Australia in 2002.

In the last 15 years, I have been working across the early childhood, mid-year and adult education systems where I have held management and headship positions.

I am very proud of the team here at PRC and the work we are doing in ensuring that every young person arrives (PRC) with a dream and leaves with a future. I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming months.

Assistant Principal

Hi, I’m Kim Gray the Assistant Principal. I am very excited to have joined the amazing team at Plenty River College. I have been an educator for 32 years. I graduated as a Physical Education / Health teacher and have taught in the Secondary School system my entire career. After many years as a classroom teacher, I progressed to Leadership roles and then into Acting Assistant Principal roles before securing my ongoing role here. I have always had a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people.  My leadership roles over the journey saw me working with students who needed support with well-being, behaviour management, trauma and learning support. I look forward to working with your students here at Plenty River College as I support them on their educational journey and future pathways.

Head of Well-being

Katerina Digala

Wellbeing has placed a large emphasis on creating a comfortable space where students can feel a sense of safety and belonging in the classroom. Looking at students’ needs and identifying where behaviours are not pro social and implementing alternative ways to express those needs through appropriate behaviours. This includes a punching bag for positive release of energy, fidgets and other sensory items, weighted blankets, separate break out spaces with individualised enclosed sensory space to feel grounded, return to baseline and back to the classroom.
