Stage 3

LEARNING TOGETHER

Welcome to 2023! The Stage 3 team are looking forward to working with you and your children to make this a productive and enjoyable year. For many of our students, this will be their last year of primary schooling. We are excited to see them grow and develop as learners throughout the year, in preparation for the next big step in their learning as they enter secondary school next year.

Settling In

It has been wonderful to see the way our Stage 3 students have settled so quickly into classes and new routines. Students are coming prepared for learning each day and classrooms are happy and positive. Throughout the year, it is important to check in with your child on a regular basis to ensure they have everything they need, as glue sticks tend to run out quickly. Being prepared for each day optimises learning time.

English

In our English lessons this term we are exploring an e-book, The Last Fish, which is a highly engaging, illustrated and interactive tale about a fish who believes she is the last one left in the ocean. The unit incorporates environmental themes, such as sustainability and climate change, and students have already shown great interest in learning about the work of Sir David Attenborough and the current threats to the Great Barrier Reef.

Skills students will gain in this unit include learning to write effective and meaningful paragraphs and using persuasive techniques in writing to express a position and support it with arguments.

Mathematics

Over the past week, Stage 3 students have begun learning in mathematics groups. These groups have been put together after careful consideration by teachers and analysis of assessment information. These groups are flexible and as the term progresses and topics being covered change, adjustments to these groups may occur to ensure students are in the group best suited to their needs.

Swimming Carnival

Our recent 3-6 swimming carnival was a huge success and, given this was optional, we were very happy to see so many Stage 3 students attend, even if it was just to cheer on their classmates. A fantastic day was had by both students and staff! Keep an eye out for further details in a future newsletter.

We look forward to making this a productive and enjoyable year for all. We are excited to be welcoming parents into our classrooms over the next fortnight for you to see where students are learning and to discuss students' goals for 2023.
