Specialist Feature News

It's been great to see the enthusiasm that students are bringing to Science lessons each week! We are enjoying listening to questions, discussions and the observations that are made.

This week the Foundation students focused on making and recording observations by looking around the classroom and outside to find things that move. It was great to see the students draw detailed pictures to record what they saw. The 1/2 students have continued their exploration of how things move by rolling objects such as balls, cars and tubes down a ramp. They made predictions around which object they thought would roll the furthest or the fastest and recorded their results using diagrams in their Science Journal.

The questions the 3/4 students asked about Gravity this week were amazing. Students were testing the effect gravity has on different objects and timing how long it takes objects to fall from a certain height. They discussed fair and unfair tests by keeping things the same for each test.

This week the 5/6 students completed a PAT Science assessment to get a baseline result of their knowledge. This will help teachers to plan lessons as well as support and extend students as required. They also continued their investigation into circuits and how to draw a circuit diagram using different symbols for each component.

We have thoroughly enjoyed teaching science for the first 5 weeks of 2023 and hope the students enjoy continuing to build their science skills and knowledge this year. If there are any parents in our school community who have a science background who would like to share some of their knowledge or skills with us then please get in touch.

Just a reminder about Twilight Sports next Thursday night. We hope to see all the families there ready to cheer and support!
