The World’s Greatest Shave

The World’s Greatest Shave is a foundation dedicated to assisting families suffering from cancer and fundraising vital research into the tragedy that is blood cancer.

While it is a Kinross Wolaroi tradition to participate in the event, it is not tradition that makes it a valuable staple of our school, but rather the enthusiasm and unity it brings to our school, and the money and awareness it raises for an important cause.

The organisation began as a way to raise money for blood cancer treatments and to raise awareness for those affected. Since then, the group has grown into one of Australia’s largest and most well-known charity groups, with over two million participants since its inception. 2023’s World’s Greatest Shave will be the 25th year since the organisation began.

The World’s Greatest Shave is an incredible opportunity for our school community, providing our whole school, not just the Year 11 students, with a cause to rally around and support.

On 30 March, ten students from Year 11 will be cutting or shaving their hair to raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation.

We hope to raise $15,000 to support those impacted by blood cancer. If you would like to help us reach our goal, please donate using this link.

Thank you for your support!

2023 Orange Chamber Music Festival Gala Opening

Friday 10 March, 7:00pm

Derek Pigot Auditorium

Kinross Wolaroi School is delighted to hose the opening gala event of the 2023 Orange Chamber Music Festival. Featuring for the first time in Orange, 'Camerata', Queensland's Chamber Orchestra and the Orava Quartet. This event is not to be missed. Presented in partnership with Kinross Wolaroi School and with the support of the Australian Cultural Fund, School families and friends are encouraged to attend.

Nineteen musicians from Brisbane, Qld will make the trek to Orange for the first time, for an evening of Tchaikovsky and Elgar, as well as two new Australian compositions by Robert Davidson (Qld) and Nicholas Russoniello (NSW).

Camerata, a most vibrant and charismatic chamber orchestra will lead the occasion, opening with the Serenade for Strings in C major op. 48 by the Russian composer. The Orava Quartet, ensemble of residence will conclude as a feature, with Elgar's Introduction and Allegro for Strings op. 47.

Another exciting feature at this Gala is the premiere of a new Baritone Saxophone Concerto, in the virtuosic hands of local Jay Byrnes (pictured). Jay is internationally recognised for his affinity to the baritone saxophone and his distinctive tone. Jay Byrnes is a founder of the Orange Chamber Music Festival and a tutor at Kinross Wolaroi School.

The evening promises to be a real treat that will showcase the vision of this Festival. The Festival Gala is curated by the Festival Director Carmen Nieves, in consultation with the guest ensemble. Carmen is passionate about showcasing the versatility of chamber music, and for this program, the inclusion of Australian music is the reflection of the diversity and freshness of this Festival. Since 2021, the Orange Chamber Music Festival has been hailed for its fresh and refined appeal, whilst showcasing the extensive arts and cultural features of Orange.
