Principal's Report

Mrs Michelle Nicholson

Welcome Back to our K-12 Students

Guyra Central School, as all NSW Department of Education schools, is returning to full time on-campus learning from Monday 25 May 2020. All school activities and operations will be in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health guidelines as applicable.

All students should be at school unless:

  • They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition
  • They are currently unwell.

As from Monday 25th May 2020 teachers will continue to follow the same school curriculum, face to face within the classroom, with the exception of some activities that can’t go ahead for now.

I would ask all parents/carers and community members to understand that we are not able to welcome visitors to the school unless it is essential. I encourage all parents/carers to 'kiss and drop' their children at the gate. Under no circumstances are parents to move beyond the front office and into the classroom areas. This rule will be in place until we receive approval to modify this directive. If you need to interact with the office staff it would be useful if you could ring ahead to see if we can help you remotely.

Advice from health is that social distancing is not required on public transport. School buses will continue as per normal, however, parents should consider other options to get children to school (walk, cycle, private vehicle) if possible. I would ask all parents to consider that we are anticipating busier than usual traffic before and after school and ask that you refresh with your children around road safety.

We are really excited, as a school, to welcome back the bright and shiny faces of the children who attend Guyra Central School. Our children are at the heart of everything that we do here and it is their energy that powers the school.

We understand that some of your children may be quite anxious about returning. We have employed additional support staff to ensure that your child's transition back into school is smooth.

I would like to again acknowledge the work that has been done by you, parents, carer's, family and community members to ensure that our children have continued with their learning journey during these challenging times. As a school we enjoy the great support and partnership that we have with you. I believe that this bond has been strengthened during the 'break'. Thank you and thanks again to the incredible commitment and achievements of our amazing staff under, at times, extremely difficult circumstances. We all want the same thing. The best for the children of Guyra and our surrounding communities.

I look forward to the time that we can all join together at the school to celebrate. Until then let's get on with it!

Please call me if you have any questions or concerns.
