School leader decision process

The process of deciding the School Leaders begins in Year 5 with persuasive speech writing and opportunities to have their say.

Year 5 teachers introduce the leadership roles and responsibilities and students who are interested in this opportunity write a speech to deliver to their peers, Year 5 teachers, and current School Leaders.

The 2019 School Leaders meet with candidates and share their words of wisdom and once they have delivered their speech students vote on who they think would be the best person to represent our school which is always a tough decision.

After the 'student voice' stage has been completed the list of top ten candidates, as voted by the students is handed to the School Leadership team. These staff filter down to final four applicants.  This is a tough job!

The School Leader's responsibilities are:

  • Work with teachers to promote 'student voice'
  • Attend SRC workshops
  • Meet with Sally and Anna-Marie on occasion
  • Host junior and senior assemblies
  • Prepare and run JSRC meetings with teacher support
  • Encourage and support student voice from Prep-6
  • Brainstorm ideas for school fundraising

Junior Student Representative Council

JSRC is initially Year 1-5 with Preps joining later in the year. Students are nominated and each year level goes through a process to choose students to attend weekly meetings with a teacher and school leaders. They take ideas, suggestions, and concerns from their peers to the meeting to be discussed, including steps put in place to take action.

In 2019 the JSRC organised and set up the fundraising for Harmony Day, PJ Day for the Royal Children's Hospital and came up with 'At NMPS We R.O.C.K' (our new Playground Agreement).

House Captains

House Captains received their badges at the first Senior Assembly for the year and this year they will continue to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. They encourage House Spirit at sporting events and will take a more active role in the playground this year.
