From the Auslan Class room
It has been a great start to the year for Auslan classes. All the Grade Prep classes have now had their first Auslan class, and the Grade 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes have hit the ground running.
One of the areas of focus for the start of term in each class has been relying less on our voice and our ears. One simple thing we have changed in class this year is that to get the attention of everyone I turn the lights off and back on. The students have been really good at recognising that this means Stop! Look! Focus!
All the students have done a little bit of revision on the alphabet as well as numbers. I am also very excited by the work that the Grade 4 students have started. We experimented with using an app called Clips that is available on IPad. We are hoping that students will be able to create captioned videos that can be used to share with the younger grades to support their learning, as well as to share in the newsletter.
Lastly, I have included a couple of videos below showing how to sign the alphabet and also some numbers using Auslan.
