Deputy Principal's News

I would like to begin by wishing everyone a happy Mother’s Day this Sunday. I hope everyone has a great time celebrating this day with the special women in their lives. I would like to thank the Parent and Friends for organising the Mother’s Day Morning Tea; there was a great turnout despite the weather looking dubious. A big shout out to the dads who served the coffee, plated the pastries and ran the hot lunch kitchen.
It was wonderful to see so many people attend the Mother’s Day Mass and for us all to reflect on the special women who enrich our lives. I would like to thank Fr Alan for leading us in the service and a special mention should be given to Miss Amy Kempton and Miss Nicole Brent in their preparation of the students, the slides and the music. The students read beautifully and the slide show at the end was a lovely conclusion to the mass.
Yesterday we held our annual St Joseph’s Athletics Carnival. This event could not be held without parent volunteers and I would like to thank all the parents who assisted on the day. While there were a few ominous clouds looming over the event thankfully the rain held off and we managed to have a dry yet windy day. A special thanks to Mr Tim Lappin and Miss Tanya Huebner for their organisation and planning, and to Mrs Amanda Jackson for helping set up the events in the morning.
We are aware that some of the older students walk to and from school by themselves and that one way to make sure that they are safe is to give them a mobile phone. Just a reminder that phones are not to be used during school hours (8:30am – 3:30pm) while on school grounds and that all phones are to be stored securely in the child’s bag. Below is a PDF with some questions and tips around our older students and the use of smart devices. One question asks whether a non-smart device can serve the same purpose without posing the same risks as a smart device.

I wish everyone a safe and happy weekend and look forward to seeing you all next week.
