National Science Week

National Science week was run at GEC online from Monday 16th August to Friday 20th August 2021 and the theme this year was ‘Food Different by Design’.  To celebrate this theme quizzes on food and science were created for Year 7 to 12 students and a quiz for parents. Another activity undertaken was that all Year 7 students undertook an incursion online by watching the Perform Education – Time for Tech online live stream. This program outlined to the Year 7 students the benefits of sustainable agriculture, the link between food technology and innovation, how technology helps design creative food solutions, and biosecurity in a COVID impacted world. Students were asked for their opinions on how to improve sustainability with food.

Another activity that is occurring is students were asked to participate in a colouring competition and I am looking forward to seeing the different colouring posters that students have created when we return to onsite learning. When we are back at GEC I will be offering students the opportunity to experience some practical activities to celebrate National Science week which will be ranging from making your own lava lamp to making your own individual ice cream without a fridge or freezer, so students need to watch the student bulletin to hear further news about these activities.

The Science faculty would like to thank everyone for their support and participation in these activities during the week.
