From the Chaplain

Over the next three fortnights I thought I would share some things that we have been doing in Christian Studies throughout the School. Today I’m going to start with the Year One students and Year Two students who have been looking at the Armour of God from Ephesians 6:13-17.
‘So put on God's armour now!... So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist, with righteousness as your breastplate, and as your shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace. At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One. And accept salvation as a helmet, and the word of God as the sword which the Spirit gives you.’
We sang a song about this which the students love to dance to and they call it ‘the teenage music song.’ You can have a look at it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ5vIRy0cxw
In Year Four we learn about a significant story of the bible each week. We have just looked at our last Old Testament story, ‘Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.’ We spoke about why we think the Kings had such harsh punishments in those days, why it’s important to stand up for what is right or what you believe in and how God is always with us, even in the bad times (like he was in the fire with the three men). We made a sun catcher window decoration to remind us that God is always with us.
Year Seven Christian Studies is based on the themes of the ‘You Can Do It!’ program. Last week's lesson was about ‘Goal Setting’. The students had to decode a ‘crazy stick man’ bible verse, Galatians 6:9: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’
They also had to write some statements about goal making and find a suitable image to show it. It was a competition for students who wanted to enter and three winners were chosen, based on their words and images. Congratulations to Maddie Ellis, Milou Buis and Thomas Robertson.
