Commercial Road Visitors Carpark Access

A reminder to please refrain from using Commercial Road and the Commercial Road Visitors carpark for student drop-off or pick-up. With the top section of Commercial Road closed off for traffic and our staff needing to access parking, additional traffic is causing some safety concerns for our students, other pedestrians and cyclists using Commercial Road. Thank you for your understanding.

Year 10 RYDA Program

On Tuesday 31 August 2021, all Year 10 students will take part in the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) program.

This is a road safety program aimed at reducing death and injury amongst young people on Australian roads. It focuses on the attitude and awareness of young people both as drivers and passengers.

This one-day program at The Hobart Showgrounds will consist of six interactive sessions conducted by local police, driving instructors, crash survivors, drug and alcohol experts and financial counsellors. All sessions are conducted by professional speakers in their field of expertise.

Students will need to make their own travel arrangements to and from the Showgrounds Grandstand via the Howard Road entrance, for a program beginning at 9.20 am and concluding by 2.10 pm. Rotary have asked that students not be dropped off or picked up inside the show grounds. All students are to be picked up or have made their own way home by 2.30pm.

In line with the current COVID 19 protocols at The Friends’ School, students are only to attend if they are fit and well; display no symptoms (coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath); have been in Tasmania for at least the past 14 days and have not had any contact with any COVID 19 cases. Please notify the High School Office if students will be absent on this day.

Students will be required to follow safe hygiene practices and hand sanitiser will be available at the venue.

All students are required to wear their Formal School uniform and to bring a coat if the weather is inclement. Students will need a pen/pencil for this day and to bring their own food and drinks for recess.

Rotary will be holding a barbecue for the students adhering to COVID 19 protocols. Costs are $2 per sausage, $2 per can of soft drink or $5 for 2 sausages and can of soft drink. Veggie burgers are also available but must be pre-ordered. Payment will be by the use of a card only, no cash on the day. Students are free to bring their own food for lunch. Students will be asked before going which they are likely to do, buy or bring lunch.

If any students have had a personal experience of road trauma please advise Ludmila Vitesnikova in the week prior to the event so that appropriate support can be provided on the day.
