Book Week

Book Week is next week!

The Children's Book Council of Australia's annual Book Week will be celebrated next week. Every year the CBCA holds a Book Week across Australia to promote the importance of reading and the joy that children can find in it. This year’s theme is "Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds".

Teachers have organized some great learning, fun, and competitions. Your child/ren’s Weekly Learning Schedule will have details about the activities so please check those for further information. In short though:

  • Each Grade will focus on one of the Children’s Book Council of Australia short-listed books over the week.
  • Teachers will read the book to their class either as a recording on Seesaw or via Zoom.
  • Activities related to the book will be included in the Weekly Learning Schedule.
  • Each class will have a colouring competition.
  • Year 5 and 6 will be able to enter a book trailer competition.
  • On Wednesday, students will have a chance to dress up for an online Book Week parade. (See details below)
  • Friday’s Learning Schedule will include optional activities for students with no mandatory learning tasks. Friday will be a day for you and your children to lighten the load.
  • Friday’s assembly will include a celebration of Book Week.

Book Week Online Parade at Home

Students are invited to dress up at home on Wednesday 25 August as their favourite book character. The parade will take place online during a scheduled class zoom. See your child’s Weekly Learning Schedule for times.

We encourage all families to create a simple costume with what they have at home.

Please do not go to the shops to purchase items as this is not a reasonable excuse to leave your home while ‘Stay at Home’ orders are in place.

Students who need to be at school.

Children who absolutely do not need to be at school should stay at home. Any student who needs to be at school on Wednesday must wear their uniform to school. They may bring a simple costume to school that they can wear over their uniform and easily change into just before the class Zoom. Keep it simple but fun.
