Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,
Father’s Day
It is almost that time again for that important day in September, Father’s Day!
During these challenging times, when we are relying on everyone in the family unit more than ever it is important that we make the most of these special occasions to recognise and celebrate our dads and our special male role models, this Father’s Day to make it even more special.
While we cannot let dad go to a café, Bunnings, camping or to the footy so we will have to be creative this year to make it extra special and we are sure even more appreciated by our dads. The teaching staff have been creating Fathers’/Special Person’s day activity to make from home ready for Sunday!!
Here are a few suggestions, you could do at home:
The Maramba School Council made an exciting decision not to cancel however postpone Fathers’ Day/Special Person sale and have a ‘Maramba Fathers’/ Special Person sale in October or as soon as we are able to proceed safely.
Whatever you do as a family to make this Father’s Day special, we are sure he will love it. It is times like these that the thought makes a big difference!
Happy Father’s Day for Sunday 5th September
We acknowledge the Bunurong people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school sits.
We would also like to pay my respects to their Elders, past and present, and the Aboriginal Elders of other communities who may be with us today.
On the Wednesday 1st September, the Maramba School Community celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day for our Wellbeing Wednesday activities. All our activities were celebrating the importance of Indigenous culture in our community.
Indigenous Literacy Day is supported by the amazing Indigenous Literacy Day Foundation who are truly making a difference and whom we are proud supporters of. Last year, Maramba Primary School ran a successful fundraiser with funds being donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. With us all in the midst of remote learning again this year, our next Wellbeing Wednesday is based on a wonderful day of Indigenous literacy and cultural activities to join in the celebrations.
While remote communities are facing many difficulties, one of them is that they don’t have many, if any, books for their children to read. As a result, money raised for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation goes towards providing appropriate quality books to children in remote communities.
Feel free to donate if you like to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation via the link. https://donate.ilf.org.au/
Every little bit helps! Every $10 raised puts a book into the hands of a child in remote Australia.
R U OK? Day is a national day of action dedicated to inspiring all people of all backgrounds to regularly ask each other 'Are you OK?'
As a Human Literacy school, we are committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and wider school community. As a school community we have been following the many suggestions make by the Australian R U OK? campaign conducting regular ‘check ins’ with our students and teachers.
National R U OK? Day is on Thursday 9th September. As a school community we would like to acknowledge the many challenges some of our families may be facing at this time and stand together in friendship and support of each other. We ask for all students, teachers and school community members to wear a ‘splash of yellow' on this day.
Any yellow clothes, headbands, hats, scarves, socks, shoes etc will complete the perfect look!
Together as a strong, supportive and happy community… We will be OK!
Take care and stay safe!
Kind regards,
Darren Wallace Diane Morwood
