Girl Power in Engineering & IT 2020

Are you a female Year 9 student with a strong interest in a maths, science and technology?

The University of Melbourne’s Girl Power in Engineering & IT program is back for 2020 and they’re calling for applications from female year 9 students who may be considering a career in Engineering and IT.

About the program

Now in its fifth year, Girl Power in STEM gives female students insight into the world of Engineering & IT while inspiring them about the possibilities of a career in the industry. The program runs over four years and includes a three-night camp at the University of Melbourne in year 9, work experience in year 10 (Monday 22 June to Friday 26 June 2020) and a mentoring program in year 11 and 12.

How to apply

Applications open at 9am on Friday 13 March on our web site. Students have until the 19 April to complete their application. Students wishing to apply are required to complete an online application addressing a set of selection criteria. In order for their application to be considered, students must be able to commit to the entire four-year program including Year 10 Work Experience on 20-24 June 2020.

Environmental Corner

Welcome to the second instalment of Environmental Corner. This time I would like to provide you with some environmental tips that our students can do while at school. This week’s tips are:

  • Bring your own water bottle to school and refill with tap water.
  • Have a lunchbox rather than use plastic wrapping or bags
  • Borrow a book from the school library rather than buy a new book.
  • When you are not using appliances or you’re not in a room, turn off lights and other electronics.
  • Place recyclable items (paper, cans, glass etc.) in the recyclable bins that are located around the school
