Year 7 Highlights

What an amazing few weeks Year 7s have had! Not only have we been seeing lots of hard work being done in the classroom but an overwhelming amount of involvement in Glen Eira Colleges extracurricular activities too.

Our SRC members have been working hard in helping organise fundraisers whilst Sanchez All Stars and The Shazzas have been tearing up the netball court in GEC’s whole school netball competition.

The first week of March saw us all off to Rawson Village for Year 7 camp. What an awesome time everyone had! Our days were jam packed with all sorts of activities such as mountain bike riding, bush cooking, swimming and rock climbing just to name a few. Our bellies were always kept full whilst new friendships were being formed in every corner. It was great to see so many students stepping outside of their comfort zones and getting involved!

As term 1 comes to an end we hope you all have a safe and happy holiday and we look forward to seeing you in term 2.

Term 1 is so close to over but all the Year 8 students are so busy with their learning and other activities. The production of Freaky Friday has the rehearsals up and running with the cast going through their new dance routines this week. Sport has been high on the agenda of late with our students going to Beachside Secondary Swimming. Seif El Shorbagy and Jacob Baldwin helped out by competing against the 17 year olds and Lily and Matilda McIntyre were there giving their best, all came back with second or third ribbons. We are very proud to announce that qualifying for the Regional Finals is:

Year 9 Highlights

Almost through term 1! Great job so far. We’ve had really good feedback about the way you conducted yourselves on your excursions to St Kilda as part of Year 9 program, and we’ve been doing some pretty fun stuff in class besides.

We’re also going to reiterate the position of GEC and encourage everyone to practise exceptional personal hygiene and limit unnecessary contact with others. Keep an eye on all your contact channels with the college for any news about this.

Unfortunately there won’t be parent teacher interviews this term, but if you would like any feedback from your teachers we’re happy to support you in getting that.

From the Junior School Captains

Year 7

Year 7 has finished their camp experience for the year! The Year 7 students started off with a bang and began their GEC life at the end of their comfort zone where they met a range of different people and strengthened their growth in the GEC community. We hope Year 7 students implement the lessons they have learnt in this one time experience and challenge their fears for a road to success. Why don’t you find a new friend you made in camp and try sharing your knowledge with your friend? It’s proven to be a technique where you can remember the information for the long run!

Year 8

On Friday 13th March Year 8 students started their interschool sports with a bang and with no fear, showing their athletic skills and resonating the school’s motto of getting involved. The students confidently participated in various sports and even though the day spewed light rain, it did not stop their overflowing energy and they ended their day with a high note! The baseball and lawn bowls team qualified to the regionals! Congratulations to the teams and GEC wishes them all the best. You got this!

“What I enjoyed about interschool sport is that we verse other students from other schools and we play with our friends outside of GEC. We got to have a day of having fun and playing sports!”

We are eager to see more from you and the work you will be sharing this year and we remind you to be a continuous role model within the school community as your attitude towards your uniform and behaviour has been impressive.

Choose to meditate in your free time, it helps strengthens your ability to cope easier with stress. And when there’s a new year ahead, there’s stress awaiting!

Year 9

It is safe to say that students across Year 9 have implemented the school’s motto by getting organised, involved and focused throughout their classes and their participation in the Year 9 Program where they explored St Kilda, learning about their community and taking part cleaning up the beach to show our support towards the foundation, Sea Shepherd!

Congratulations to the Year 9 students who are participating in this year’s Freaky Friday production! You aspire us to take part in our passions outside of school and we are looking forward to it! It was also greatly encouraging to see year 9 students show interest towards The Duke Of Edinburgh program that was recently brought up! If you truly put your mind to something, you can surely achieve that goal.

Hope you all achieve your goals in your term 1 assessments and your other successes! Always remember that even though your own study methods is working now, it never hurts to try new and different ways to recall your knowledge on a subject!

The GEC community cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Junior School, let’s have a good year ahead!
