Ride2School

Glen Eira College promoted Ride2School Day on Friday 13th March with students from the Students Representative Council and parents welcoming riders, walkers and scooters with cute and popular stickers from Bicycle Network’s Ride2School program.

Glen Eira College adopted a charter for Active Travel in 2015 pledging to

  • Promote the importance and benefits of active travel to our students and parents
  • Support a school culture where active travel is accepted
  • Work with local government and Ride2School to help grow our physical activity levels through active travel
  • Encourage an active lifestyle at home school and the community
  • Advocate to local government for improvements to active travel infrastructure to make riding and walking easier in the local community
  • Celebrate students and parents who make a commitment to active travel
  • Enable active travel by providing secure and welcoming end of trip facilities (i.e. bike/scooter parking)

Students are encouraged to walk, ride, scoot or skate to school and  half way is ok - parents driving children to school are asked to park in Glenhuntly Park behind school or further away so that students get some exercise walking and there is less and safer traffic near the school gates.  students riding to school were asked which streets they rode along with students replying Bambra, Neerim, Glen Eira, Glen Huntly and Grange Road.  This shows how important it is for Council and VicRoads to improve the safety of the bike lanes on roads students are using and to continue and connect the rail trails along the Dandenong and Frankston train lines.

The Glen Eira College Parents Association

We are a group of parents and carers who support the schools community with events, news, friendships and a little fundraising - All GEC parents and guardians welcome. Our meetings are friendly and informal, and your level of involvement is up to you. If you are interested in being involved, want to come to any of our meetings or are not already receiving our emails, please send an email to gecpa@gec.vic.edu.au.

Volunteers (welcome even in a small way). The easiest way to be involved with GECPA is to come to our events, but we especially appreciate those who can volunteer a bit of time. We know not everyone is able to make a regular commitment, but we also rely on people who turn up just once or more during the year to help out a little. And we also need people to join our committee.

School gardening

Thanks to parents who weeded and removed dead bushes along the Booran Road fenceline.

Weekly walk and talk

We have a social walking group which meets once a week to walk and chat for an hour.  We meet on Tuesday evenings (weather permitting) at 7:45pm at the corner of Crosbie and Murrumbeena Roads at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. So that we can keep in contact, we have set up a messaging group on Whatsapp. To join the group, just email us your name and phone number.  (If you don't already have Whatsapp installed on your smartphone, you will need to do that first -it's very easy to install and to use). send an email to gecpa@gec.vic.edu.au if you want to walk with us.
