Year 12

Term 3 continues to fly by for our Year 12 students with applications for jobs and universities all happening now. The last two visits by representatives from universities were University of New England last Monday and Southern Cross University this week with a focus on the various Early Entry Schemes offered by each university.

Students are encouraged to regularly check all email accounts in order to know what is happening, what is available in terms of scholarships and what deadlines are approaching.

Jobs for School Leavers

There have been quite a few apprenticeships and traineeships that are targetting school leavers both in Year 10 and Year 12.  These are mentioned in either Daily Notices  or on the McCarthy Careers Facebook page which students and parents are advised to like and follow to keep abreast of opportunities.

University and College Open Day Season

The last month has seen Open Days at most tertiary institutions.  I have had feedback from parents and students who have travelled to various Open Days including those in Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney and Newcastle. Anyone who was unable to attend Open Days is reminded that a phone call can lead to a personal tour of campuses, colleges and specific faculties during the September holidays and after the HSC exams themselves to gather information for the main decisions to be made later this year with university preferences and offers.

Scholarships

I am currently seeking expressions of interest from Year 12 students for scholarships:

- University of New England (2)

- University of Newcastle

- a non-university scholarship worth up to $5000 for a school leaver wishing to study one of these courses while living and working in Tamworth:

  • Certificate III in Business Administration
  • Certificate IV in New Small Business
  • Diploma of Human Resources Management
  • Diploma of Business
