With the change of season, comes the changes in our garden. One of the most satisfying parts of having a veggie and fruit garden is the ever changing landscape of our plants. When planting a new season of  veggies you need to consider fertilizing or boosting up the soil from the last season. The vegetables you previously had in the bed will determine the nutrients that the soil are missing for the next season.  The best method for restoring these nutrients is to have a balance of compost, and a top up of manure or dynamic lifter. Once the garden beds are prepared, you're ready to start planting.

The Green Team have started moving compost, to get our garden beds ready. Students have planted garlic this week and are learning about the different parts of garlic.

Over the holidays,  cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, lettuce, spring onions, silver beet and many more vegetables have been planted in our garden. You may also have noticed that some of the trees have been pruned. Many parents and grandparents have inquired as to  when is the best time to prune fruit trees. It is safe to prune fruit trees straight after fruiting, most of our trees are summer harvest, pruning at the end of summer will prevent rotting and disease entering the tree.

Next week I will be introducing our Kingswood community to our 'Community Garden'. We invite Kingswood and the wider community, to contribute to a special part of our SAKG garden.  This will be dedicated to supporting what we already have in the garden. A team of community volunteers will create a garden for our students, that will produce vegetables and provide a space for teachers and support staff to use during class time.
