Sharing A Letter From Japan

One of the best things about learning a second language is being able to expand your horizons as soon as you leave school! Why not take a year off and work overseas? Here is an excerpt from an email from Jessica Mitchell who graduated in 2016 and has already landed a job in Japan.

“At the moment I’m an Intern at Baiko Gakuin for six months. At first, half a year seemed like a long time and it was scary to move to another country with a different language, but so far I’m having a blast! It’s so good to experience another culture and it really opens your eyes to endless possibilities, interesting people and all the places the rest of the world has to offer.

I went on the Study Tour to Japan in Year 10 and ever since I’ve wanted to return. One of the main reasons is because I love Japanese food! Besides, Japan is just a wicked place to be.

I left school last year and in was no mood to go straight back into study. Luckily, I heard about this internship program. So right now, I’m living in a small (though by my standards it’s huge) Japanese city located on the coast called Shimonoseki and this is living!! I get to work at the university student services and in the English Department as well as at Baiko kindergarten with all the cute kiddies.

I’m having an awesome experience and would recommend it as 10/10 to a friend.”
