Around The Primary

Dear Parents

It is that time of year when all Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will complete the NAPLAN testing. The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be held on Tuesday 9 May, Wednesday 10 May, Thursday 11 May. These tests assess the students’ knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.

Tests are a normal part of the teaching and learning cycle at school. We want our students to do their personal best, however there is no need to put them under any extra pressure. Our message to the children is to stay calm, read the questions carefully, check your work and do your personal best.

Please make sure your children are well-rested and eat a healthy breakfast so that they can work at their optimum during the test period. The results of the tests will be received later in the year and provide a snapshot of the students’ learning which can be used to improve student achievement.

Many Kindy parents gathered on Thursday night to participate in Sue Beurteaux's Occupational Therapy workshop. We all left the workshop much wiser and grateful to Sue for sharing her wisdom regarding helping children build strong fine motor foundations.

This morning I had the pleasure of attending the Year 4G Assembly. Ms O’Connor and the fantastic fours put so much effort into preparing for their special presentation. The students were engaged and participated fully in the performance.  It was wonderful to see a large attendance of parents and grandparents to support our students and staff.

An important reminder, all Mothers are warmly invited to our Mass for Mothers followed by morning tea in the Exhibition Centre next Friday 12 May. To assist with catering, it would be appreciated if you could RSVP by next Monday 8 May (see invitation below for details).

Kind regards

Our Future Engineers

To engage the students’ passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), our Year 3’s participated in a hand-on workshop to make lego vehicles powered with a battery. They proudly raced their vehicles around the classroom.
