Around The Primary

Dear Parents

It was wonderful to see many parents and grandparents arriving for today’s Assembly.

Congratulations to Ms Cooney and all Year 3G students for preparing a very entertaining item for our school community to enjoy.

The celebration of John XXIII Day is scheduled for next Friday 9 August.  It is one of the special occasions during the year when the entire student body are involved in community celebrations.

The day will begin with a College Mass at 9am in the St Louis Sports Centre.  The day will then continue with a ‘mini-fete’ organised by our Year 5 and 6 students.  This mini-fete will consist of various games and food novelties.  On this special occasion our normal nutrition guidelines are relaxed but parents may like to provide guidelines for their children.

While it is always at a parent’s discretion, we recommend the following guidelines for spending money.

PP & Year 1 $3.00 (6 x 50 cent coins)

Year 2 – 6 $5 - $10

All students are required to wear their sports uniform and House shirt for the day. They also need to bring a snack for morning tea and a packed lunch.  No canteen orders will be available on the day.

Let’s pray for fine weather on the day and that a magnificent celebratory spirit will be present on John XXIII Day.

Kind regards,

Antoinette De Pinto

Reconciliation Retreat

On Monday the 29 July, Year 3 participated in a Reconciliation retreat arranged by 24:7 School Ministry. To start, we learnt about what the world would be like without rules, and this highlighted the importance of having rules. The next topic focused on forgiveness. They introduced this by showing a video that explained how God will always forgive us. We then decorated a cross and wrote our sins on the back. Just like Reconciliation, these sins were kept a secret by gluing the cross down.

After this we spent some time learning about Reconciliation. We watched another fantastic video that showed a cartoon pencil who accidentally went out of the line. The pencil panicked and tried to fix the mistake, but in doing so, only made it worse. Along came a rubber and it cleaned up the mess. We understood this to be about our lives and how as much as we try to stay on track and do the right things, sometimes we sin or make mistakes. However, we can find comfort in the fact that God will always be there and forgive us for our wrong-doings.

Overall, the incursion was a great success. Year 3 had so much fun playing games and engaging in discussions that taught us about rules, forgiveness and Reconciliation.

St Ignatius

On Wednesday 31 July we celebrated the Feast of St Ignatius.  The Year 4s wrote some lovely personal reflections.

We pray for all the wonderful things you have given to us. I find God when I pray in the chapel and look at living things, plants and animals. Lord God, forgive our sins and help us to turn closer to God. St Ignatius - Pray For Us .  Liam Burns 4G

My Lord, you are so good in every way. You teach us to love one another. You make things possible for us. You give us friends that we can talk to. You give us an environment to enlighten our spirit. You gave us a body to explore your world. You gave us Saint Ignatius to try to be more like. Thank you, God.  Clare Stout 4G

Dear God, thank you for St Ignatius of Loyola. I reflect when I pray, in the sunshine and when I close my eyes to think of you.  Scarlett Polini 4G
