Pastoral Care

This week has been a HUGE week for our Community Action Team as they not only have they continued to promote the Christmas Hampers, which shall be presented to St Vincent DePaul at next week’s Mass but also planned and conducted the “MCC Colour Fun Run” as part of the Project Sam festivities.

This was the first time a colour run had been held at our school and given the response and enthusiasm from students and staff I can imagine that it won’t be the last. With the year drawing quickly to a close what better way to celebrate then engage in an activity which promotes physical activity, encourages socialisation in a fun environment and raises much needed funds for the schools we support in Samoa.

This is the final activity the C.A.T Leaders will organise before they transition to senior grades; it gave them an additional opportunity to increased their leadership skills and demonstrate the values of respect, responsibility and commitment. All of the students are to be commended for giving up countless lunch times and congratulated as they all rose to the challenge of working as a team to achieve a common goal. Many of the C.A.T Leaders have been long time members and will be missed but I hope they reflect on their time as leaders with fond memories and are proud of what they have achieved and understand that they have made a significant difference in the lives of many by reducing the impact of inequality and promoted social injustice issues.

I am fortunate enough to have some MCC students completing their “Community Service” activity with me next week and our primary focus is collating and sorting out our MCC uniform pool. I am hoping with the end of the school year near to receive items which are no longer needed; particularly junior girls uniforms. I have students who access our pool on a regular basis and I am always grateful for any donation. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you require further information or support.

In addition, my band of volunteers will be looking at how we can promote our water bottle recycling program. Some of Mr Jatan’’s year 10 HSIE students spoke at this week’s student briefing and the message is clear; that the majority of students support the concept of recycling and want to bring about change; we just have to find a better way. The bottles we collect raise funds for CAREVAN so not only are we reducing our carbon footprint on Earth but supporting a vital community service. I look forward to hearing the ideas the students have.

Finally, I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and get to do something which brings you joy and happiness.
