PREP
The Prep students are learning about materials and their properties through engineering a house for The 3 Little Pigs this term. Students began by reading the story of The 3 Little Pigs and exploring the materials used to construct a range of houses and shelters from around the world. This week students explored the material, property and characteristics of mystery objects before using different materials to make stylish outfits for the fourth little pig. We can't wait to see what the Prep students will do next!
GRADE 1
This term the Grade 1s are learning about Chemical Science and will be learning about natural materials and how our First Nations Scientists; Indigenous Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people used these to live on Country. Our first session engaged us in learning about First Nations People through story, creating an acknowledgment of country and creating an Aboriginal flag and Welcoming sign, ‘Wominjeka’ for our classrooms. As we work through each week, we will learn about and experience how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people used the materials from the land to make tools, bush tucker, fire, shelter, art and games.
GRADE 2
The Year 2 students have begun their Science adventures investigating materials, and how we describe these. We've completed an experiment investigating what it means for an object to be 'hard', testing a range of materials from paper and cardboard, to concrete and stone. Our experiments allowed us to arrange these materials from softest to hardest.
GRADE 3/4
The Year 3/4 students this term are learning all about states of matter and how these can change by adding and removing heat. Last week students explored how scientists classify matter into the categories of solids, liquids, and gases by sorting a wide variety of liquids, solids and gases using scientific definitions. This week students learnt about the particle model of matter through simulators, role-playing particles, and creating their own particle models using Fruit Loops. The 3/4 students are excited for another term of hands-on science learning!
GRADE 5/6
The grade 5/6 students have been investigating Chemical Sciences and have been looking at states of matter. It is a term of experiments with the students investigating different observable properties of solids, liquids and gases. The end of the term will see them create a montage of what they have learnt about matter.
