The junior school is back in the art room and they have been super busy filling the corridors with amazing Book Week inspired artwork.
Our wonderful Prep Artists have been reading the story, Just one bee by Margrete Lamond & Anthony Bertini, illustrations by Christopher Nielsen. They have been busy bees making 2D bumble bees, which have all now been added to our giant bee hive and this week they had a glorious session of making clay bee hives and bees. The Preps were awesome at rolling, squishing and using the clay. They made pinch pots, used marking tools, made clay bees and joined their clay using the scratch and slip process, and that is all in ONE hour!
When these beautiful clay creations have been fired, we will learn how to glaze our hives and bees.
Next week we will be stepping into Africa by creating a range of African inspired art pieces. Lots of fun and art learning to come!
The Grade 1/2 Artists have come back into the art room with a splash by reading the story, The Walk of the Whales by Nick Bland. This gorgeous story is encouraging our students to care for the oceans and use our artwork to spread this message.
Using oil pastels and watercolour paints, we all draw and painted our whales and our Art Club friends made a beautiful ocean for our whales to swim in.
Continuing with our whale theme, this week our students created clay pinch pot whales, these are absolutely gorgeous and will be amazing when they are glazed.
Next week the Grade 1/2s will also begin their African Art journey where we will be drawing Ndebele Houses and using inspiration from these villagers to create African inspired drums.
