Jeans for

Genes Day

Save the Date - Friday, 19th August

Every minute around the world, twelve kids are born with a birth defect or a genetic disease.  BMGS is a school wrapped in tradition and connection to community. As a new teacher to BMGS I have been welcomed with open arms and immersed in the many traditions we have here.

One of these many traditions is Jeans for Genes day. Many years ago, one of our students, Pippi Graham, was diagnosed with Leukemia late in her primary school years. Sadly, the cancer came back and Pippi passed away in Year 9. Her friends organised the Jeans for Genes fundraiser to make a difference. There is a plaque in the triangular shaped garden opposite the canteen line in memory of her and reads:

"Pippi Graham 23.1.1988 - 16.5.2002. Cherish her memory and let it live on."

Since then, Kelley House has run the annual Jeans for Genes fundraising day. Let us continue with that tradition and support the vision that Pippi’s friends had to help find a cure for diseases such as Leukemia, so these kids can go back to being kids.

BMGS are taking part in Jeans for Genes Day on Friday next week, 19th August. Please encourage our students to wear their favourite pair of jeans with their school uniform and bring in a gold coin donation.

We encourage everyone to join us - wear your jeans and stand up for Jeans for Genes Day.
