Ministry and Care
Pastor Peter Janetzki
Two of our Year 12 students, Jeel P and Ruth R, shared the following message with all of our Senior Year's students earlier this year.
Our message has to do with stress. Many of us would be feeling stressed about the workload before us, the study we need to do, and how our future will unfold.
In times of stress, it is best to rely upon God’s peace and love. You see, God loves us and wants what is best for us. So it’s important to keep trusting in God and God’s process for us. It’s important to keep faith in God especially when things are not clear because faith means trusting in God even when we cannot see how the future will pan out.
We often try to manage our lives all by ourselves; we try to make things happen according to our own plans. Such plans often fall short because we are human and we make mistakes. When we merely rely upon ourselves, downfalls happen! This causes stress, anxiety, and fear to creep into our lives. Our problems overwhelm us.
A healthier course of action is to trust God – even when we don’t understand God’s methods or God’s ways. It’s best to remember God sees the bigger picture. God sees what is best for us and the circumstances before us. Perhaps God needs to work with another person, or situation, before God can intervene in our circumstances and help us with our needs. That’s why it’s so important to trust God’s process.
The Bible puts it like this: “The Lord says, ‘My ways are higher than your ways. My thoughts are higher than your thoughts'” (Isaiah 55:9). God is the creator of everything, so God is sure to know what is best for us.
Imagine all of our stresses have encircled us and formed a barrier around us. Things like homework, assignments, family issues, friendship hassles, and future hopes. Where is God in this picture? Chances are we think that God is on the outside – not close to us. Our stresses have so dominated our lives, that we feel God is blocked from helping us.
However, God is able to break through those barriers! God is able to intervene in our circumstances and touch us with his help and peace. This is why making time for God in our lives at stressful times is so important. When we make space for God by reading our Bible and praying to him, God is able to touch us with his care and peace.
Trusting in God brings us peace beyond human understanding.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding.
Always let the Lord lead you. He will clear the road for you to follow.
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
