Principal's Report

I can’t believe there we are already in week 4 of this term. I must congratulate families, students and staff for the incredible work that occurs at BPS, I continue to be amazed and most-proud of the outstanding students. I do want to acknowledge a perfect storm of COVID, flu, other illnesses, and a state-wide shortage of emergency teachers, please be aware that we are taking steps, as necessary, to continue our commitment to do everything that we can to have students remain on site. This may include combining classes, utilising specialist teachers and Marianne or myself taking classes, these approaches will only be implemented if absolutely necessary.

I thank you in advance for your understanding as the school navigates this challenging period.

100 DAYS OF FOUNDATION

What a special milestone reached by all Foundation students, our teachers and families. We acknowledged the day with a celebration of all things 100 and some wonderful Foundation students who had aged slightly! Congratulations to our Foundation super stars, they looked like they had a fabulous day and some very tired children by the end of assembly!

See some great photos on the Facebook page below:

Athletics

Thank you to Merissa and amazing team who has organised an amazing athletics events for this coming Monday. It would seem that the right call was made to postpone the event and look forward to the opportunity for our students to celebrate together.

Minecraft for Education

You might have noticed your child in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6 talking more about Minecraft lately. We have recently shared access with our senior classes to the Minecraft Education app using their Department of Education log in details. Students have been spending time familiarising themselves with Minecraft, and teachers in Years 3-6 have been investigating the integration of Minecraft into Literacy, Numeracy and Integrated programs. Minecraft Education is a fantastic resource that we are lucky to have access to. Students are engaged in the program (and many have better skills than our teachers!) and we are using it alongside other curriculum areas.

An example in the last week has been our Year 3 and 4 students creating buildings in their Minecraft worlds and writing procedural texts on the steps they took to do this. Minecraft is safe online environment that encourages digital collaboration. Students will have access to their Minecraft Education app at home, however as with all online access with our iPads, once the device leaves our network, we can no longer monitor or control what students are able to access. Please make your own house rules regarding your child’s access to Minecraft Education at home.

We have included some links below if you would like to read further about devices in classrooms and how using technology, such as Minecraft, is benefiting the future of our modern day kids!
