Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Week 3 Update
It’s hard to believe that this weekend is the 10th and final round of Winter sport for the year. It seems like only yesterday that we were conducting the trials and heading into Round 1. This weekend’s games will be the final event for Winter 2022. Training will cease after this weekend for all Winter sports.
A few reminders for the end of the season:
- All boys that have a blue College goal keeper’s jersey are asked to return it to me on Monday 8 August.
- AFL boys are asked to hold onto their guernsey until sport photos are taken a little later in the year.
- Any additional College equipment should also be returned to the College on Monday 8 August.
- All teams should have organised a thank you gift for their coaches to be presented after the final game on Saturday 6 August.
As the year rolls on, the boys in the Junior School keep reaching for success in all their activities, both for and outside the College. Alexander BouAntoun plays in the Inner West Bulls U 12 Firsts Basketball Representative team. Having won their Division 3 Waratah Junior League Metro Cup Grand Final, they were invited into the State Cup competition. The team performed strongly with Alexander displaying some strong defensive skills. Alexander’s team finished second in their pool, but sadly missed out on the grand final. Congratulations to Alexander and his team on their tremendous effort.
I would like to highlight the efforts of our Prep First XV Rugby side over the weekend. Faced with a strong St Augustine’s team on paper, the boys were prepared for a tough, grinding game. However, shortly after the whistle blew, it became obvious that our College's team was well on top and a large score was on the cards. To the boys’ credit, they implemented initiatives to give their opposition opportunities to play extended phases with the ball and encourage their development. All this at the risk of losing the game, possibly their first of the season. In the end, our boys came out on top with a strong win. At the end of the match, the St Augustine’s coach thanked us for their fair treatment of his team and pointed out the sportsmanship and encouragement given by our College's Prep First XV. It is great to see the leaders of Junior School Rugby demonstrating all our College values on the field. Well done to coach Mrs Tatola and all the boys in the Prep First XV on securing their first win of the season and doing it in such a dignified way. We are all very proud of you!
