Physical Education

Over the past fortnight, our students have been focussing on the following skills:

Prep – Bouncing

Grade 1/2 – Working cooperatively with others whilst playing modified versions of Commonwealth Games sports

Grade 3/4 – Invasion Games

Grade 5/6 – Invasion Games & Hawks for All program (more information below)

Soccer Clinics

We were very fortunate to be offered 3 sessions of soccer clinics on Monday the 1st of August. The lucky classes who were able to participate, in their normal PE time, were 3/4S, 3/4K and 5/6M. Luke and Mahadi from Football Victoria ran the students through many activities and games to develop and enhance their soccer skills. The students had a great time!

Hawks for All Program

What a treat! On Thursday the 4th of August, Gerard from The Hawthorn Football Club, along with Miranda, Tori and (former student) Billy from SEDA, came out and ran the Hawks for All Inclusive Schools Program with our Grade 5/6 students. Students learnt about Wheelchair AFL, the clubs that have a team (Hawthorn, Richmond, Essendon, St Kilda and Collingwood) and the different ways to move the ball:

  • Kick: in wheelchair AFL this is a handball and the ball must move at least 3 metres
  • Handball: in wheelchair AFL this is an underarm throw. You must let go of the ball before it reaches shoulder height

Students practised moving around in the wheelchairs, passing the ball with a partner and shooting for goal. As 1MO have PE on a Thursday, they were also able to participate and have a go in the wheelchairs. We all learnt so much and had an absolute blast!

Perceptual Motor Program (PMP)

For the last two weeks, our Prep students have participated in activities practising the following skills: ladder crawls, jumping, hand-eye coordination, throwing, running, bouncing, rolling (pencil roll), bowling, balancing and crossing the midline of the body. It was great to see the mobility and enthusiasm of our Prep students all dressed up for their 100 days of school! A big thank you to our Grade 5/6 students, who continue to show great leadership and enthusiasm whilst assisting with these sessions.
