Education Week

This year, Education Week runs from Sunday 14th to Saturday 20th May. The theme Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate celebrates the many ways students learn through physical activity, hands-on learning and student voice.

We will be celebrating Education Week this year through a variety of themed classroom activities from local organisations including the NGV, ACMI, Parks Victoria and more. Students will be encouraged to be active, creative and innovative. Classes have also registered for some inspiring virtual experiences during the week including a bush clock making session with Ballarat Municipal Observatory & Museum (upper students) and a ‘meet the author’ session with Lucinda Gifford for some of our younger levels.

Thursday 18th May will be an official celebration day! Students are invited to dress up in their best ‘active wear’ (think fitness wear, sports attire, dance costumes, karate gear etc). Families are invited to join in the celebrations from 12:30-1:40pm at the main campus. Activities will be planned for you to engage in with your children, and you are welcome to stay and have lunch with them afterwards until 1:40pm. Bring along food and a picnic rug to share with your own family if you wish. There will be a session running at Batesford from 11:00-12:10 for Batesford families, starting with morning tea and then activities.

The Book Fair will also be running during this week (Tuesday 16th to Friday 19th May). Opening hours are Tuesday-Friday 8:30-9am and Tuesday-Thursday 3:35-4:00pm. Cash and Eftpos both available.

Keep an eye out on Facebook and Dojo in Week 4 for photos and videos of us celebrating our amazing ‘Active Learners’!

Term 2 Lunch Clubs

In Term 2 we have introduced some exciting new lunch clubs including an Art club (3-6), Dance club (prep-2), Lego club (prep-2), Nature explorers club (prep-6) and Chess club (2-6). Storytime still runs for all grade levels through the week as well as lunchtime indoor sports for our upper year levels. Lunch clubs are a great initiative for our school and it’s been wonderful to see the positive impact on students. Thanks to all staff involved in running lunch clubs.

CentrePay

Those who receive payments from Centrelink can choose to set up CentrePay to arange regular fortnightly payments towards the school, which can go towards your vountary Curriculum Contributions/excursions. Families can nominate to have Centrepay paid fortnightly and the amount will be at the discreation of each family.  You can collect a form from the office.

Thank you to those families who have payed for their annual Curriculum Contributions. These are still available to pay either via Compass, EFTPOS through the office or you can set up CentrePay.  Other contributions for non-curriculum items for our school grounds maintenance and student welfare are also available and are warmly welcomed.

If you are using the Compass app and are having trouble accessing the required forms and information, please select "more" at the bottom of your screen and then "open in browser". You will then have full access and will be easier to navigate.

Conveyance Allowance

Eligible students living in the school zone and residing more that 4.8km from the school maybe eligible for conveyance allowance.

Forms are available at the office for families to apply.

Attendance

If your child is going to be away sick, has an appointment or family holiday. Please make sure you add an attendance note via Compass. Otherwise you will receive a text message saying that your child has not arrived at school. You will also receive a call questioning why your child has an unexplained attendance.

Please try and enter attendance note prior to 9:00am.

Rollins Primary School recognises that being at school on time and attending every day contributes towards a student's learning and that maximising school attendance enhances academic outcomes.

We take attendance very seriously at Rollins PS and have a goal to have as close to 100% of student attendance as possible.

For more information regarding attendance please follow the link to the Education Department's Attendance Policy

Toys at school

We are noticing a lot of children bringing soft toys to school to play with at recess and lunch. Can we please remind you all that we cannot take responsibility for items that have been brought from home like plush toys, balls and other small objects. Children are coming up to the office asking for their lost items and becoming upset. Please be aware of what your child is bringing to school and if they choose to bring something from home, it must be clearly labelled and the responsibility falls onto your child.
