Visual Arts

Last term, in conjunction with their Inquiry unit focusing on Australian federation, Year 5 and 6 students were introduced to the work of Australian Impressionist artists from the late 19th century. They looked at the work of Frederick McCubbin, Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton. We discussed the meaning of impressionism: the artists used colour and quick brush strokes to create an impression of their subject rather than using minute detail.

Students then explored the idea of positive and negative space to make a silhouette frame for an Australian landscape scene. After making their frame they used watercolour paint and oil pastels to create an impressionistic background for their scene.  This was a challenging task and I am very proud of the work they produced.

Sport

Last Friday the sun was shining as the students participated in the annual whole school cross country event. It was wonderful to see many students proudly wearing their house colours and displaying perserverance, resilience and sportsmanship as they raced around the course. Congratulations to green house for winning the event!
