Foundation (Prep)

Welcome to Prep C!

What an exciting week we've had. We would like to thank Nathan and Summer for running a fun downball clinic with us on Wednesday and for giving us each our own downball!

We'd also like to thank the wonderful parents who organised and ran the Mother's Day Stall for us this week. It is such an exciting experience for the Prep children to go shopping for mum/grandma and prepare a little surprise for them. Thank you!

Literacy

We have started talking about information texts. The students and I have talked about what a fact is and we have written facts about bones.  This week, we wrote facts about ourselves. The children have also been encouraged to use a full stop at the end of each sentence.

We have also learnt a new digraph this week (two letters which make one sound). We worked together to create a fantastic list of words in which they could hear the 'ai/ay' sound.

'Snails play - ai/ay, ai/ay, ai/ay'

Numeracy

This week students were introduced to Addition. We used objects to practise adding two groups together to get a larger number. Students also used chalkboards to draw simple pictures and add them up. We have not introduced the plus and equals symbols yet. This process allows the children to understand the concept of addition before adding these other elements.

Inquiry

This week we referred to our Wonder Wall and ended up discussing melanin in our skin and hair.  We learnt that the more melanin you have, the darker your hair and skin will be and the less melanin you have, the lighter your skin and hair will be. We also read a book called Where Does My Spaghetti Go When I Eat?  Students were interested in hearing about what happens to the food after we eat.

Last week we spoke a lot about the skeleton and muscles. We also looked at some x-rays and talked about what we could see. Early this week we had a go at making our own x-ray of our hand. 😊

I wish all of the mothers and grandmothers in Prep C a very happy Mother's Day this weekend.
