STUDENT MEMBER for SCHOOL COUNCIL

SCHOOL COUNCIL - STUDENT ELECTION
The Department of Education and training (DET) has increased each school’s constituting Order by two positions to allow for two student members to be elected to council. All Victorian government secondary school councils with students in Year 7 and above must conduct their Student member school council election process. Two members must be elected by the end of Term 2 on Friday 29 June.
Student members of school council will have the same role and responsibilities as other council members, including full voting rights.
Student members will be expected to prepare for and attend all council meetings, in line with the requirements for school councillors.
To be eligible to run in the Student member category, that person must be a student enrolled in Year 7 or above at the school where they are seeking to be on council.
For 2018 only, one student will be elected for a one-year term of office and one student will be elected for a two-year term of office. From 2019, students will be elected to council for a two-year term of office.
Councillors are not permitted to share their role. Councillors are elected to council and are expected to attend all meetings and serve their full term of office.

School Councillors play an important role in decision making and the management of our school. They donate many hours to the various sub-committees of council: Education, Finance, Facilities & Grounds, Chaplaincy and Sponsorship & Marketing. Councillors belong to two committees, they also attend monthly council meetings and represent the school at many functions.
Meetings are held twice a term on a Tuesday and begin 7.30pm with an approximate 9.30pm finish.
