PLT Spotlight...

Year 2 & 6

Year 6

It has been a wonderful start to Term 2 in Year 6, with plenty of awesome things happening!

In Reading, we have been looking at persuasive language features and how they influence readers to think and feel about a certain topic.  This linked to our Writing unit where we have been using our understanding of persuasive language features to create website sales pitches for haunted houses using our ICT skills.  Have a look at some of our wonderful work!

In Maths, we have been looking at fractions and time and have been participating in collaborative problem solving around them.  We have been learning how fractions not only represent a part of a whole, but that we can also add and subtract them!  Here are some photos of us working on a fraction problem solving task together.

In time, we have been exploring how to get from one place to another by using our Victorian train and bus timetables to travel from our homes to Sovereign Hill!

Inquiry lessons have been a wonderful way to explore our own chosen country within Asia and compare the differences of our chosen country with Australia.  We have been looking at different maps and what each of these maps can tell us about the world around us.  We will be using all our research to create a website at the end of term to teach our friends and families about our countries.

Year 2

This term has been very busy so far, with our Year 2’s getting straight back into learning and showing us their fantastic work!

In Reading, the students have been analysing narrative stories.  They have also been learning about nouns and adjectives and how these are used to describe characters, the story’s setting, problem, and resolution.

In Writing, the students have been learning how to write a narrative story.  They have been unpacking the structure of a narrative including the orientation (setting, and characters), complication (or problem) and the resolution (or solution).  The students have then been practising creating their own character, setting, problem or solution to a known story like ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ or ‘Pig the Pug.’

In Maths, the students have been learning addition and subtraction.  They have been focused on practising their ‘friends of ten’ and using different strategies for adding or taking away numbers by using number lines and tens frames.

One of our highlights so far, has been meeting our Year 6 buddies!  Every fortnight we will be doing a special activity with our buddies.  Below are some photos of us hanging out with our buddies!
