Performing Arts Highlights!

Year Prep

The Prep Communities have been exploring the dance elements: actions, space and timing. They have been using their imagination to create actions to different movement stories and safely interact with others in the space. Students will learn short dance sequences based on the dance elements and perform to their peers.

Year 1/2

The Year 1/2 Communities have been learning about Bollywood dances and moves. They have been collaboratively working together to structure a dance using their knowledge of Bollywood actions. Students are now learning a choreography dance inspired by the movie “Trolls”.

Year 3/4

The Year 3/4 Communities have been learning about what makes a good character in drama. They have identified that in order to create a good character, they must use their imagination; explore movement and voice techniques; have an intention; and explore conflict. Students have been creating their own character profiles based on a visual stimulus of different photographs. By using their knowledge and understanding of what makes a good character, they will be able to use their drama skills to perform their character.

Year 5/6

The Year 5/6 Communities have been focussing on interpreting a drama script with a partner or small group. They have been developing an understanding of their role and situation within the drama script and exploring different ways of using movement and voice techniques to act out their character in the scene. Students will work towards performing their scenes to a buddy class using props and costume pieces.

Important Event:

As part of Aitken Hill Primary School's Performing Arts program, we have been fortunate enough to receive a free dance demonstration workshop by Kinect2Dance on Friday, May 19th, 2023.

Kinect2Dance is a program designed specifically for schools, tested in schools and the wonderful teachers are trained to work with students from all walks of life. The dance program provides students the opportunity to participate in and learn a range of different dance styles within the comfort of their school environment. The highly experienced instructors teach a variety of modern and traditional dances that encourage students to develop resilience, co-operation, mindfulness and confidence in fun and energetic dance lessons. The dance lessons will also teach your students the importance of teamwork, health & fitness, leadership and socialisation.

The workshop will run for 30 mins in the school gym and cater to each year level that attends. There will be a schedule of times of which mentor class will be attending. We are looking forward to this!!
