Are you Curious about the world of AI?

The world of education and learning is undergoing rapid challenge and change. The advances of Artificial Intelligence and tools like ChatGPT has provoked educators around the world to rethink the classroom, how we teach and how students need to learn for the future.

This week there has been much media discussion about the risks of AI. The government is considering a ban on “high-risk” uses of AI and automated decision-making. There are concerns about the potential harm related to deepfakes and algorithmic bias. We need to be cautious and aware of how AI is evolving.

There are no easy answers for the range of questions that AI in this new era has raised. But I urge you, as part of our College learning community to keep being curious, and asking questions about what AI might do to support the learning of our students.

Recently, I listened to a Ted talk by Sal Khan, the founder and CEO of Khan Academy. He thinks artificial intelligence could spark the greatest positive transformation education has ever seen. He shares the opportunities he sees for students and educators to collaborate with AI tools -- including the potential of a personal AI tutor for every student and an AI teaching assistant for every teacher -- and demos some exciting new features for their educational chatbot, Khanmigo.

It has sparked my curiosity and I encourage you to be curious as well.
