Learning and Teaching
In literacy this term our P-2 children are focusing on book making. This means if you have an idea about something..make a book about it!! Children are exposed to lots of different great texts such as Dharma the Llama, Pig the Pug and more. Our children are using writing techniques used by the author in their own books.
Our 3-6 children are using their writers notebooks to create and experiment with their own stories. Children have borrowed ideas from authors, created books and more.
Reading gives children the best start in life. We know that Children learn 4,000 to 12,000 words per year through reading.
Our P-2 children are continuing to use effective reading strategies such as going back and rereading, getting their mouth ready, does it sound right, look right and make sense.
Our 3-6 children have delved deep into book club by exploring new books, having rich discussions and sharing their own connections to the book during book club sharing.
Our school library is back for borrowing!!
The St Gabriel library is open for borrowing. We are ready to do some home borrowing again. We will be going to the library this term in week 4 and week 7. Feel free to send in a library bag.
Faith
Our Year 3 students will begin to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the coming weeks. This Sacrament provides an opportunity for reflection and thinking about how we can be in the right relationship with others and our environment. This Sacrament will be celebrated on Friday 2 June, 930am at St Gabriel’s Church. The children will be taken over to the Church by their educators to take part in this Sacrament.
