STEAM Guest Speaker

We have a partnership with Cherie Lee, our CSIRO STEM professional who facilitates specialist STEAM guest speakers. Last Friday, Steph Astbury gave a presentation on her career path to becoming an electrical engineer working with AusNet Services. While a student at RMIT, Steph and a team of students built a human-carrying drone for a competition run by NASA! The event was very well attended and students had the opportunity to ask a huge number of questions about Steph’s journey to being an electrical engineer. Thanks to Cherie Lee!

Star Wars Day Trivia

On May the 4th, to honour Star Wars Day, STEAM ran a Star Wars Trivia competition in the library. It was a great success, with many students coming along to show off their knowledge of the franchise. We even had some friendly competition between students and teachers! Eventually, 1st prize went to a team of students, who won a lunchtime of VR Beat Saber in the STEAM Room. Overall, it was a great lunchtime and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves!

 Our BIG robot project

A small group of students has been staying back after school on Tuesday nights to work with Ben, a mechatronic engineer to build a REALLY BIG robot. Well done to Al Pilepich, Emily Chard, Giselle Scott and Alina Rudd Hansen for their hard work. We hope to test our robot at a FIRST Robotics Competition soon.

 Upcoming Competitions

FIRST Lego League – join a team to build a robot, complete a project and have a lot of fun! Let Ms Keen know if you would like to join in.

CyberTaipan – fancy being a cybersecurity expert?

Come and try your skills in the CSIRO CyberTaipan competition where you learn lots of great things and then try and detect cybersecurity issues in computer systems.
