Assistant Principals' Report

Year 7-9 Assistant Principal Report: Rachel Robertson

As we approach the halfway mark of term two at Melbourne Girls’ College, I am always in awe of the number of wonderful opportunities offered to students across a range of discipline areas. I was fortunate enough to see some of the Richmond Rotary’s Ainger Peck Public Speaking competition at the beginning of the month with the Years 7-9 heats against Richmond High School. Congratulations to Lucinda Buckle, Yolanda Lui and Ellie Nicolls for winning these heats. In Year 8, representatives from each class performed their poetry slam at the cohort assembly this week to show off the work they have been completing in English/Humanities. Congratulations to the overall winning team, Eva Murphy Ward, Ellie Fazakerley and Ella Morgan in 8D.

Year 9s attended the Holocaust excursions to support their current studies in Word Of Ideas, then participated in Forensic Science Incursions where they used their critical and creative thinking skills to solve a crime. Finally, the Year 9 Outdoor Education Camp also ran last week, despite some last-minute changes to the itinerary due to poor weather.

Transition is also well underway, as we begin to look ahead to our incoming 2024 Year 7 students. This week, we have a number of Grade 6 students joining us from many schools to sit the STEAM Additional Information Session. It is always a lovely way to get a head start on meeting some of our new students. I’d like to thank all the Junior Ambassadors who have volunteered to help us out with this event.

Year 10-12 Assistant Principal Report: Renee Liprino

As a recent addition to the college staff, I can confidently say that Melbourne Girls' College continues to maintain its tradition of a bustling schedule, even in the midst of the term! Our older students have braved the elements during outdoor education camps and football matches, as well as participating in the Millionaire Hot Seat.

Meanwhile, our Year 10 students have actively engaged in mock job interviews as part of National Careers Week. I encourage you to discuss with your child how they fared in these interviews and ask to review their resumes. Personally, I had the privilege of witnessing our Year 11 Vocational Major students explore the field of plumbing. I even had the opportunity to try out some trade-specific power tools, although our students quickly outperformed me.

Additionally, our humanities team has been providing various legal activities during lunchtime, including court visits, ensuring our students have ample opportunities to broaden their legal knowledge. I want to express my gratitude to the staff, students, and families for warmly welcoming me to the college. I eagerly look forward to supporting everyone as we approach the upcoming GAT and mid-year exams.
