Annual Calrossy 7-9 Sports Day

The annual 7-9 Winter Sports day is to be held on the final day of Term 2. Students are to come dressed in their sports uniform for the day. Students will compete in their houses in a variety of sports. This is always a highlight in the School calendar and a great way to conclude the term.

12 x 12

It’s hard to believe that Year 12 are in their final 12 weeks of schooling. With so much to be done during this time it’s important to establish sustainable routines that support your child’s holistic wellbeing. Please see below 4 ideas to support your child:

Nutrition: A balanced and nourishing diet plays a significant role in supporting your child's overall wellbeing. Encourage them to make healthy food choices, including a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. A wholesome diet will provide the necessary nutrients to fuel their bodies and minds, promoting focus, memory retention, and optimal performance during their studies.

Here are a few practical tips to consider:

  1. Encourage regular meals: Ensure that your child is not skipping meals, especially breakfast, as it provides energy for the day ahead.
  2. Hydration is key: Remind them to drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day to stay refreshed and maintain concentration.
  3. Limit processed foods and sugary snacks: While the occasional treat is fine, excessive consumption of these items can lead to increased energy. However, this energy is fleeting.

Sleep: Adequate sleep is vital for cognitive function, memory consolidation, and emotional wellbeing. It is crucial that your child establishes a consistent sleep routine to ensure they are well-rested and alert during the day. Lack of sleep can lead to increased stress levels, decreased productivity, and impaired decision-making abilities. Encourage the following sleep hygiene practices:

  1. Set a regular sleep schedule: Encourage your child to go to bed and wake up at consistent times, even on weekends.
  2. Create a sleep-friendly environment: Ensure the bedroom is dark, quiet, and comfortable, promoting relaxation and quality sleep.
  3. Establish a wind-down routine: Encourage activities such as reading, listening to calming music, or practicing relaxation techniques before bedtime to signal the body and mind that it's time to rest.

Exercise: Physical activity is not only beneficial for physical health but also plays a vital role in maintaining mental wellbeing. Regular exercise releases endorphins, reduces stress, improves mood, and enhances cognitive function. Encourage your child to incorporate exercise into their daily routine, even if it's just a short walk or stretching break. Additionally, engaging in team sports or joining fitness classes can provide social connections and further boost their overall wellbeing.

Supporting your child's efforts: As parents, your support and encouragement play a crucial role in helping your child adopt healthy habits. Here are a few ways you can support them:

  1. Lead by example: Embrace a healthy lifestyle yourself, as children often learn best by observing their parents' behavior.
  2. Collaborate on meal planning: Involve your child in grocery shopping and meal preparation, allowing them to make informed choices and develop essential skills.
  3. Encourage breaks and outdoor activities: Remind your child to take regular breaks from studying, engaging in activities they enjoy, and spending time outdoors.

Mindfulness: In the final two weeks of this term Year 12 students will be provided an opportunity to practice Mindfulness during Wednesday lunch time. During these sessions students will be exposed to practical skills to help them unwind and recharge.

Calrossy Rugby Vs TAS

It was fantastic to have a couple of extra games for some of our rugby teams who had the opportunity to go to Armidale and play against TAS. The Women’s U14 Team went down TAS 19-0. For both the U16 Women’s and Men’s Teams the event provided valuable practice prior to both teams departing for the internally tour in New Zealand later this month. The Women’s Team lost in a closely contested match 10-0. The men’s team had a convincing 60-5 win over TAS.

We wish both teams the very best in their tour and we look forward to hearing about their experiences on their return.
