In HASS this term we have been learning about our local community and our place in it. Together, we discovered the places and jobs that make up our Belgrave community and had the opportunity to engage with the shop owners at the Belgrave South shops and CFA. Excitement filled the air as we rode on the bus for the long drive up the road. We went to visit the CFA and learnt about how they engage and help the community as well as fire safety tips that can help us if we experience a fire. Our Preps loved seeing the big red fire trucks and learning there are also white ones too.
The shop owners loved showing us their stores and telling us about their role. We even got to see the inside of a veterinary consulting room and the x-ray of a bird. There are a few Preps who now want to be a Vet, Hairdresser or Baker when they grow up! Thank you to the Belgrave South shop owners and CFA for giving us insight into our wider community.

Our Primary Science Club dived into the fascinating world of surface tension last week. They discovered how bubbles form and observed their behaviour. Students blew bubbles within bubbles, saw how many drops of water would fit on a coin and had a blast playing with even bigger bubbles. It was a truly amazing session filled with hands-on exploration and newfound knowledge.

The chaplaincy space is where students often come feeling overwhelmed or emotional. It's a priority to have a calm and reassuring atmosphere in this space where students can focus on something else. We recently asked one of our gifted art students, Grace S (Year 10) if she would be willing to paint something for the Chaplaincy office that would create a sense of peace and calm. The pictures below show what she painted! Beautiful, right?
This artwork has been a wonderful resource in our space and it has been incredible watching students emotions change as they look at it and talk about their lives.

Last Tuesday, our Year 12 Business Management students visited the Yakult factory in Dandenong as part of their studies in Unit 3 Operations Management. They had an enlightening tour of the facility, witnessing manufacturing, packaging, and quality control processes. They also enjoyed a taste test session, gaining insights into operations management strategies such as Technology, Lean Manufacturing, Materials and Quality Management. We thank our knowledgeable tour guide and Yakult for the valuable educational experience enabling us to apply our content knowledge to contemporary organisations.

Our second annual Ladies Day Out by Pulse was another fantastic success. BHCS Mums of all ages and stages ventured out together to indulge in the Rocky Road Festival at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie - where we tasted and created and played and learned ...and shopped of course. We had blue skies and sunshine for our rambling stroll through the gorgeous Alowyn Gardens. (A maze race in the labyrinth garden may or may not have separated us by age and fitness.)
After a relaxed and casual cafe lunch together, and lots of chatting and laughter, we headed back to school on a sugar and fresh air high!
It was a fantastic way to make new friends and find connection and community at our school. Thanks Pulse for this excellent idea. Stay tuned for their next amazing brainwave for connection!
