General Achievement Test (GAT)
The General Achievement Test (GAT) measures literacy and numeracy skills against new standards as well as retaining its existing purpose of ensuring VCE external and school-based assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed.
Who needs to complete the GAT:
All students enrolled in one or more VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3–4 sequence are expected to sit Section A and B of the GAT.
Year 12 Vocational Major students are required to sit Section A only
When: Thursday 15th June split into two sections:
•Section Awill assess literacy and numeracy skills
•Section B will assess skills in mathematics, science, technology, the arts and humanities

Section A: Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Numeracy | |
9:00-9:15am | Reading time |
9:15-11:15am | Writing time to complete Section A which includes one writing task with two parts: •50 numeracy multiple-choice questions •50 reading multiple-choice questions |
11:15-1:15pm | Break (YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RELAX IN S7/8) |
Section B: General knowledge and skills | |
1:15-1:30pm | Reading time |
1:30-3:00pm | Writing time to complete Section B which has: •one extended writing task •25 mathematics, science and technology multiple-choice questions •25 arts and humanities multiple-choice questions |
What to bring:
• Scientific calculator
• English and/or bilingual printed dictionary
• Pens, Pencils and an eraser in a clear snap lock bag or clear pencil case
• Clear water bottle with no label
Where to go and what to do:
• The GAT will be held in Senior Centre (upstairs and downstairs)
• Meet outside of the Senior Centre in the upstairs courtyard at 9.00am
• FULL UNIFORM!
• Your name will be marked off by a member of the Senior Team
Exemptions:
A student may be deemed eligible for GAT exemption if they:
•have a condition, circumstance or impairment for which arrangements cannot reasonably be made.
•are prevented from sitting the GAT by injury, illness, personal trauma or a serious intervening event
•are employed and cannot be absent from work (evidence from the employer is required)
