Winter Shelter

On Friday, 2nd June, Marlborough Primary School will hold a fundraiser to raise money for Winter Shelter.

Winter Shelter is a Maroondah churches and community response to local homelessness.

It is the mission of Winter Shelter to provide shelter, food and honour for people who need shelter, comfort and support.

We ask members of the community to bring a gold coin donation on the day for this good cause. Students are asked to wear pyjamas or comfy clothes on this day in support of the people in our community who are homeless.

Think Science

Hi Everyone, I’m the science teacher for term 2 at Marlborough! I’ve been having a great time teaching science to the students here so far this term. I’ve been lighting tea bag rockets with the 3/4 students, making ramps and rolling objects with foundation, mixing up some fizzy cloud dough with the 1/2’s and completing light experiments with the 5/6 students.

I wanted to let you know about an exciting new national science competition available to the Grade 3-6 students called ‘Think Science’ from the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) (https://www.ansto.gov.au/education/think-science-a-nationwide-science-event ). This competition is free to enter for teams of 2-4 students and encourages them to perform an investigation using the science inquiry skills. We teach the science inquiry skills through primary school and this would be a fun way to really consolidate their knowledge on asking a question, planning and conducting an investigation and analysing the results. I’m happy to support any keen scientists who would like to commit to working together as a team and coming to the science room for half of every Monday lunch time to complete their projects for the rest of this term. At the completion of the project they will need to create and submit a 3 minute video that discusses what they investigated and what they found out, we will need parent approval for this. There are only 3 teams allowed to enter per class and if they win there are some amazing prizes available for both the students and the school. If your child is interested please encourage them to join a team of classmates and come along, I’ll be starting the lunch time sessions with the students in the coming weeks.

Thanks, Emily Scarbro
